The description:

Kylie Tate is highly successful and focused on her future. No one sees the fear that consumes her, ravaged by demons from a past that left her distrustful of love.

Alex Stone is rarely denied. Not by business associates, and certainly not the women he dates and forgets. Romance is never an option. That is until beautiful, sexy, too damned independent Kylie comes into his life and frustrates the hell out of him. She sparks a desire in him to protect her from the one demon that haunts her – and threatens to destroy them both.

Pushed to her limit and unwilling to be a victim any longer, Kylie takes control of her life.

But a madman’s quest for revenge not only threatens to destroy the love she has finally found – but also her life.

I was drawn to this book initially because of one of the characters’ name, Kylie.  My niece is Kylie.  The initial description I read was that Ms. Kylie Tate is highly successful and focused on her future.  Not so different from my Ky.

You’re introduced to Kylie at the same time as Alex Stone.  He comes off as a spoiled rich boy who probably doesn’t notice the little people.

I love that in the very beginning Kylie puts him in his place.  She’s very frank, almost to the point of being blunt.  The way she’s introduced, you’d never know that she’s a high profile attorney.  She’s smart, she’s sassy, and she handles herself.

Alex Stone is a megarich playboy who has never had anyone tell him no.  He barrels through any situation in the most direct manner.  He’s a very take charge kind of guy.  And when he falls for Kylie, he falls HARD.

Alex becomes aware of a relationship that Kylie had ended with a co-worker, John.  A relationship that the ex doesn’t want to end.  He’s abusive, to the point of extreme violence.  John is quickly losing his grip on reality.

The story mainly focuses on the quickly blossoming love between Alex and Kylie.  Alex does everything he can to keep Kylie safe, and when John steps in making threats, Alex goes overboard in his efforts, to Kylie’s thinking.  It takes until almost the very end of the book to understand exactly why Alex reacts the way that he does to the violence from John, you have an idea, but there’s nothing concrete.  I’m not going to lie..there was some major ugly crying going on while reading this book.  But there was a whole lot more YOU GO GIRLs going on.  I LOVED the way Kylie handled herself.  I loved to see her stand up to those who did her wrong or belittled her.  I loved her strength.  I loved the relationship she has with her college friends, Paul and Ryan.  They are the only family Kylie has.  I would have liked to see more of them in the story.

I absolutely loved this story.  Once I picked it up, it was hard to put it down.  I wanted to know more..I wanted to know what was going to happen.  This was definitely a page turner.  I can’t wait to read the others in the series!  You can pick up your copy here.

Before I end this review, I want to say that no matter what someone tells you, you are important.  You should never be hit.  If you are in a dangerous situation, there are ways out.  It’s not hopeless.  Please call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-SAFE (7233).
